Window and door replacing

Hi,
We bought our bungalow second hand. It's not that old maybe 12 years.Lovely structure but finished off v.badly with cut corners inside, a lot unfinished, cheapest of materials used and a lot of incredibly bad DIY so when we bought it we gutted and renovated. I'm thinking now of window and door replacement.
We have wooden effect pvc type window frames. Hinges and vents are all stiff, scratches and some draughty.
Our front door is wooden with glass at side as is the double side doors and single back door.
The windows are low down quite wide ones. Nice looking but defintely not in great nick. Previous owners never looked after them. I spent a few days just cleaning building Rubble and dust out of them when opened....thus was after the house had been lived in fir many years ‍♀️

I will get quotes but just wondering approx how much are new windows?
Also what should we be researching or any advice re new window and non wooden door. The door is defintely draughty. In fact whole house is but I think this is down to sitting room stove vent and one newly installed in shower ensuite. Our bedroom doors rattle when it's windy.
Thank you

I would think that windows installed 12 years ago should be in relatively good nick, and require only a deep service rather than full replacement. I am not sure if your supplier offer that service to replace seals, or if there is another company that can come and check the airtightness between wall and frame etc.

I recently paid in the region of 25k to replace front door and windows and install a sliding patio door. Roughly 10 windows all triple glazed, and uPVC windows. The windows alone were ~16k and my understanding was that for AluClad it would have been 20-25k.

Very good advice given here a couple of weeks ago on all of this. Just cannot find the link right now. YES, windows installed over 12 years ago do need looking into. Loose glass, cracked seals and hinges will in most cases need replacing. French doors too. You would be absolutely amazed how much will need doing, especially the one you mention.

As above I would get them serviced first to see if you really need to replace them. I know stuff has got worse in recent years and doesn't last as long but my 30yr old windows and doors are still as good as they were day one. I have had some hinges changed over the years and had them serviced.

Hi,
Thanks for the replies. I didn't even think about servicing them so maybe I will get onto that then 1st.
Defintely the hinges and the rubber are not in great nick so that might make big diff.
A lot of money alright for new ones thx for an idea of how much.
I might just aim for replacing the front door with a good solid pvc one first after getting windows serviced. The otherc2 doors match the windows and are most visible so I'll leave them with the windows.
If anyone knows of any good company for either door or windows in Co.Cork please let me know or any other advice re my query.
Thank you

You might have been thinking of Drafty double glazed windows
