When we moved over we brought the tv and dvd recorder. The tv had the correct tuner for over here. The dvd recorder didn't. So it wouldn't tune in RTE etc. We then got Sky and it worked fine with that. You'll need to check your DVD recorder.
Just to add, it depends where you are in Ireland. In some places all 4 channels are on UHF so UK DVD OK but in other places VHF still used for RTE1 AND NETWORK 2.
If you get sky with an Irish Sub card then you will be fine.
