Will the Miele Vacuum Cleaner be too small for 3-bed house?

I'm thinking of buying the S4211 Miele Vacuum Cleaner as it's highly rated on the Which? website for good on Carpets and good at allergen retention, but the bag capacity is only 3.5L and also it just looks quite small compared to my old cylinder vac. I would appreciate if anyone has comments on this or maybe someone has a similar vac ?

You'll hardly pick up 3.5L of debris each time you hoover - even if you hoover the whole house in one go - will you?

I have one for a 5-bed detached house and it is perfect. We don't have any carpet other than the stairs but do have wooden floors throughout most of the house and don't have to change the bag except every couple of months.

Thanks for that. I have carpet in two bedrooms, the hall-stairs-landing and the sitting room, the rest is wood but it sounds like it would do the job without too-frequent emptying of the bag. My last vacuum cleaner packed in a year ago after 22 years but it had become a dust-circulator in the last year although I wasn't really aware of allergens etc then as no-one in the family has allergies. Now allergen retention is really important to me. I notice from the Which? magazine website that many so-called allergy vacuum cleaners don't retain allergens all that well.

Has your GP or specialist specifically advised you that you need such allergen control?

If allergen retention is such a big issue, you could always consider having an integrated vacume installed. Some models will collect large pieces of dust in a sealed container and any fines (including allergens I presume) are vented to the outside air.

The hoover unit itself can be located in a utility room or in a garage and the vacume hose plugs into an istalled socket in the wall. They can be retro fitted in existing houses but it is easier if you have partition internal walls rather than block built.

our next door nieghbour has the same model and they swear by them way over the likes of dyson. it's dear but worth the less stress, much smoother and more reliable.

Clubman, I haven't been advised by a GP re allergen control.

Squire, I wouln't consider an integrated system as this is an old solid block house and anyway it seem like too much trouble.

Looks like the Miele is going to be a good bet.

When I bought a Miele washing machine I was able to make an appointment for a run through on the best use of the machine. If you are in Dublin you could check with them if it is possible to test out the vacuum in their showrooms. They are based off Airton Road in Tallaght.

i'm looking at buying a miele canister vacuum cleaner but i am not sure which model to get. i have laminate floor in the living room and dining area, carpet in bedroom. i would appreciate any advice on this.

Hi Noilheart,

I have a large country house with cats and dogs and children and use the miele S512 and find it very good and have had for about 6 or 7 years, I don't have many fitted carpets more rugs, just carpet on stairs. There are filters which you change with every 4 bags that you use, these filters come with the box of miele hoover bags. I find this hoover excellent especially with animals around the house.

I've got a Miele, the S5210 model. It's great. The bag is small but takes weeks to fill.
I reckon go with the S4211 model, or the TT5000. Both of them are tied as the "Best Buys" on points.
You may not need allergen and pet hair features, but these are Mickey Mouse features. The big sell is that of the 60+ models surveyed, it came joint first on points, but costs a third less than the model it shares first places with.

No contest. Or as the Septics would say, "no brainer".

And now that I think of it, isn't there a Miele sale at present? Normally they never go on sale, and any retailer that tries to sell them at below the recommended price loses the Miele contract.
Just think of the stock market, and do the opposite. Buy!

I have laminate floor and carpet, which do you think is good for both?

Me? Dunno.
But which say
TT5000 " it's outstanding on wooden floors and good on other surfaces, too" and "excellent results at picking up pet hairs off carpet and dust from floorboards" and "Excellent at cleaning floorboards, excellent at removing pet hair, good on carpet and laminate".
Carpet: 4/5
Laminate: 4/5
Floorboards: 5/5
Walls and corners: 4/5

S4211 "It's a great choice for any floor surface. ... offering first class cleaning ability on all surfaces."
Carpet: 4/5
Laminate: 5/5
Floorboards: 5/5
Walls and corners: 4/5

I probably shouldn't be posting stuff like this.

used both dyson and miele on various different jobs. have a miele myself, it is the best by far.
