Will mobile phone work in the states

Over in the US soon and was wondering if my phone would work over in the states. Its a triband phone samsung sgh-zv10 also have a Nokia 5140I
only want to use if for sending texts home or to the other party who are travelling with us as they want to do all the touristy bits and its just arranging times and places to meet

We are both on vodafone prepay

Any ideas ?

Vodafone RTG doesn't support roaming in the US. You may be able to buy a US SIM and put it in the phone but it depends on whether or not it's locked to Vodafone and needs to be unlocked.

By the way - anybody using RTG for roaming (where roaming is available!) and who may receive calls from Ireland should opt for [broken link removed] so that receiving a 10 minute call will "only" cost them €0.79.
