Hi, my late father-in-law transferred his property to my wife via a gift while he was alive. Ten years ago, he had paid off his mortgage and given the title/deeds to his solicitor for safe keeping. I wrote to his solicitor about this and he responded with " The title for the property was transferred into Y's name prior to X's death and you are now registered owner of the property"
While we do have folio references and land registry letters, I thought the title/deeds were a type of original physical valuable document, is this not so? Are land registry folio's enough proof of ownership?
