My in laws Mothers birth certificate surname and her marriage certificate surname have one letter different , she always said it was the name on her marriage certificate that was correct and looking at old census records her relatives seem to have a mixture of both spellings. She recently passed away and her surname on her death is entered as the same as her birth certificate. My question is will this in anyway affect the probate process?
I believe it should have no major effect.
When I was dealing with State Savings whilst preparing for probate, the final letter they sent me referred to my late Mam in the subject line as her married name, aka her most commonly used maiden name, aka her birth certificate name.
(Hope that makes sense)
