Will and probate can executor do paperwork without solicitor

Hi there, just after some advice please. My bother in law is executor to my fathers will which is cash assets only up to £60k and the question is can he just ask the solicitor for the copy of the will and apply for probate himself. Will is straightforward as to be split between siblings equally. Does he also have to attend an interview with the probate office and is this in Dublin. Many thanks for your assistance in this.
 
Yes I looked after straight forward probate for my husbands family, nothing complicated in the will either... It went through quickly and smoothly
 
note he probably will also need to get a tax clearance cert at the end from Revenue but that is very straightforward.
