Does anyone know why the English Daily Mail ( with English news ) has been turned into an Irish newspaper? I quite liked reading the english news and seeing what Tony Blair and Co. were up to.

Re: Daily Mail

several reasons...

To boost Daily Mail sales in the Republic and increase ad revenue
To establish a presence in the Irish market for the Daily Mail Trust... a newspaper market that is proving to be one of only a handful in the developed world where sales are not in steep long term decline (yet)
To make money (in the long run)
To possibly weaken INM's grip on the Irish newspaper market with a long term view to establish other products here (such as a Sunday paper, magazines etc.)
To extend the Daily Mail brand internationally and thus utilise untapped brand value (i.e. the McDonalds strategy)

Re: Daily Mail

RTE radio had a 5 minute report on this that amazingly concluded that (a) the newspaper will be a success if people buy it and (b) if people buy it then the advertisers will place ads in it. Imagine that! Thank goodness for public radio keeping us informed on matters of importance.

Whatever about all that — does anyone know what the hell you have to do to get picked as a winner in the Last Word competitions to win one of those nice Sony Vaio laptops..?

[Relevancy clause: the 'answer to tonight's question...' was the Daily Mail!]
