Why paying 250 euro twice to health consultant

Hello

I had a visit to see a specialist for my son. The Dr who is urologist said nothing and asked for an ultrasound. I paid 250 euro for this 5 minute visit and left.

Now I have an appointment in the radiology department of the same hospital to do the ultrasound to my son next Wednesday and I have to pay again 250 euro. I really think it's crazy and I don't understand. If anyone can explain

Thank you

I assume it’s a private consultant you saw? Who recommended an investigation, and you have to pay for the investigation. Same as if s/he ordered a blood test.
€250 for initial consultation sounds about right. Hopefully follow up visits will be a bit less and hopefully your health insurance will cover at least some of the cost,

Check with your insurer that this consultant is covered as further procedures could be even more expensive

I think this may be in the wrong section, it’s not welfare and benefits

I am new here and don't have yet any insurance. Yes it's a private hospital for kids.

Warm regards

If you chose to go private then you must pay fees. If you use the Irish public health system then all treatment is free, but it can take a lot longer for your child to be seen and investigations arranged.

Hi Aliahope,

Welcome to AAM and Ireland.

Please be mindful of where you post your threads as it is in breach of posting guideline 1. Your post has been moved to the correct forum.

You can read all about private health insurance here and Public Health Insurance also.

If you need a follow-on visit to the same consultant the charge is generally €150 but some charge more.

Hope you get things sorted and that you son returns to good health.
