Why is there VAT on the government jet?

Hopefully the contractor who built the bicycle shed doesn't get the contract. If they do the hanger will cost more than the jet.

I think that's an urban myth. The hanger at Casemount Aerodrome is big enough to store multiple aircraft

Will the OPA build it and how the contracts are awarded
.
The OPW will design a striking shed for the new jet, harmonizing with the rich historical context of Dublin Airport. The structure will feature authentic Wexford marble, meticulously crafted by skilled stone masons from rural Donegal, while brushed steel will be hand-forged by a women's collective from the Aran Islands. Organic concrete will be poured using traditional methods, as part of a ceremonial re-birthing ritual, preserving both cultural heritage and craftsmanship while placing the shed at the core of Ireland's rebirth as a future-facing global society which the new jet symbolizes.

The Department of Defence is obliged to pay Irish VAT on intra -EU acquisitions. The VAT will be paid to the Revenue Commissioners.
The state as such does not lose out as its going from the coffers of the Department of Defence to the Revenue Commissioners. But it is technically correct that these aircraft are acquired VAT free at source. VAT is then paid in Ireland.
