Hi all,
I cant understand why Gerry was at the debate last night and why his picture is on most Sinn Fein Posters. He does not reside in the state and if Sinn Fein were to go into coalition he would not be the representitive invloved...

By the way I loved that fact that he has multiple homes and the Sinn Fein policies are anti home ownership

He is Sinn Fein leader and I'm not sure he distinguishes between Northern Ireland/Republic of Ireland.

If SF were in government, he could still dictate policy to SF TDs.

I'm sure Adams makes no such distinction but the fact is that they are two separate countries and he isn't running for election in this one. Joe Higgins' party claims to be part of a global Marxist movement - would they be entitled to draft in Hugo Chavez for television debates?

I am no major fan of Mc Dowell, but if you are a socialist leader and over a party that do not believe in home ownership.... Well that is what some of the canditates have said, no policies listed on their web site. Isn't this contradictory...

Hes an Irish citizen and so are most of the people he represents. Thats enough for it to make sense in my view.

How are Sinn Fein policies anti home ownership? And what make the policies of successive governments in the republic which largely ignored the Bacon report and which presided over tax breaks for investors to buy apartments, contributing to price inflation squeezing ordinary hardworking families out of the market who cant afford a property any more pro 'HOME' ownership ?
Its no good having pro home ownership government if for example teachers, firefighters, nurses and gardai who are the core of upholding society cant afford a home.

*Note: I have no affiliation to any party and havent decided who to vote for yet*

Hi all,

He is one of the most recognised faces of Sinn Fein so it makes sense to have him on posters and in any case there would be many potential Sinn Fein voters imo who wouldn't know that Adams is not a candidate in the election . As regards the debate it would have made more sense to have Caomhin O Caolain representing the Shinners imo as he is their leader in the Dail. That said I'm not sure it would have made any difference, I have never heard a Sinn Fein politician speaking with authority about economic issues - McDowell would have wiped the floor with any of them in relation to economic matters.

Joe Higgins' party claims to be part of a global Marxist movement - would they be entitled to draft in Hugo Chavez for television debates?

If Hugo Chavez was the leader of the party Joe Higgins represents, then yes, I would imagine he would. If Hugo was dictating policy wouldn't he be the appropriate person to have in a leaders' debate?

I'm not sure what the 'regulations' are here-but that fact is that Gerry is leader of SF.

Btw-I have no political affiliations.

Why is Bertie Ahern's picture on most FF posters ?

Yes I noticed that too and I find his face on the posters outside of Dublin undermines the candidates in the areas where the local people will vote for the people in their town that will do what they can for them.

Drove through Offaly last weekend and I was shocked to see the FF posters with a big photo of an airbrushed Bertie and four smaller photos of his team of four Brian Cowan etc which I thought was very insulting to his "team".

Laois/Offaly is the only place where the candidates were forbidden to have personal posters. Those 4 picture ones that HQ allowed are quite simply insulting. And I am not a FF fan btw.
