Why does my gross pay not match p60?

hi folks,

Hope you can help with this connundrum - my gross pay- as on the cumulative part of my payslip for year end does not match the amount I earned as on my P60. i am a civil servant with no other sources of income. Is what I describe unusual?

Also, can anyone explain why my PRSI seems to vary a good bit during the year?

I think that the gross figure on your P60 is generally after pension contributions. This may explain the difference.
