Kiwi app is really useful. Allows you to specify whole countries or regions in the "fly from" as well as "fly to" boxes while searching through millions of connections involving separate tickets. Just don't ever book with them.I do that and then book directly
It's that that expensive to get this part sorted (not sure about bags being unpacked, wouldn't fancy that). The sort of trip where you are collected, or your car is valet parked at the airport. Bags are delivered to your destination hotel, and unpacked, and people transport you all along the way with zero waiting and effort.
I have a bit of insight into this business having worked at many OTAs and airlines (including in direct succession an OTA and then a very well-known Irish Airline who for many years have been in legal and verbal battles with each other). In short my advice is, as a general rule book directly with the airline, but you can get great mileage (yes, that's a pun) doing your research with OTAs such as skyscanner for routes you are unfamiliar with. Hotels are a different matter which I will come back to.I have seen a few cases where people had refund issues and there was an agent involved which made everything more complicated.
This is just the latest example :
Airline canceled flight - refund issue
Hi All, We were traveling via Lufthansa (booked through MyTrip) from Dublin Airport in July 2024 and our flight was canceled by Lufthansa due to climate activists sitting on the runway of Frankfurt Airport. The Lufthansa told us to look at alternatives ourselves as they couldn't accommodate us...www.askaboutmoney.com
I don't know who mytrip is, but why would anyone book through them and not directly with the airline?
I have Hertz Gold and it's a tremendous convenience and time saver to get the car directly at the airport (and possibly drop it off). But AFAIK you can get it only as a benefit of frequent booking, not a membership you can pay for. I could be corrected.I was talking to some friends about what we’d do if money was no object… I mean euro millions winner level. And 5 star travelling is one of the things we all agreed on. The sort of trip where you are collected, or your car is valet parked at the airport. Bags are delivered to your destination hotel, and unpacked, and people transport you all along the way with zero waiting and effort.
I don’t really mind collecting hire cars for instance but increasingly hire companies are sited away from airports and shuttle buses are needed. And then I see someone getting their car delivered right outside the airport and I have serious travel envy.
In the meantime I shop around and book directly or via websites,,, whichever is cheaper.
