His job isn't to educate the public, it is to influence government policy for the benefit if their members. Limiting the discussion is him doing his job well.

There is a huge difference between by necessity carrying a small volume of petrol a short distance in a jerry can to fuel a lawnmower or chainsaw, and transporting an additional supply of petrol for the length of a long journey all to save a few cents.

And whataboutery doesn't change that particular equation.
