We got stranded in Birmingham on April 17th due to the closure of all airports due to the volcanic ash. We were due to return to Dublin on 17th and could not return until 19th via train to Hollyhead and ferry to Dublin.
Do we apply to Ryanair to be compensated for our accommodation for 2 nights, meals for 2 days and train/ferry tickets? Or our travel insurance. Would really love to get something back from Ryanair.

When would it have been possible to travel back via air with Ryanair? Should you not have rebooked with them?
I believe that if you took the travel back in your own hands you break the contract with them so it may not be easy to get a refund.
