Who has the best fixed rates?

Thank you.

Anyone know where I could bet a graph of the historic ECB and Irish interest rates?

How far back?
ECB figures will be fairly easy - but with all the different lenders and types of mortgage it will be difficult to get an "average" mortgage rate to compare.
What exactly are you trying to find out?

I'm trying to figure out how long I should fix my mortgage for?

Remember the old adage "past performance is no guarantee of future results" - especially in these turbulent times.

If you are trying to time the market, don't. Financial giants cannot predict the future, looking at some historical charts will not shed much light on it.

The Irish banks may well start to increase their variable rate mortgages - regardless of what happens to ECB rates (PTSB have already) - so looking at historic ECB rates may be of little use to you.

To help reduce any worries or doubts about going fixed or variable - why not ask the lender to split the mortgage - fix half for 5 years and leave the other half variable. BOI are actively promoting this idea. It might not end up being the cheapest option - but then again it will not end up being the most expensive either.
