White stains on brick

Got new front wall built last year but have noticed a lot of white stains appearing on the brick work - they look like chalk stains. It seems to happen if the weather is dry for a couple of days - it's as if the bricks are drying out. Went to B&Q and asked if they had anything that would remove the stains but they didn't seem to know what I was talking about. Has anyone any product they can recommend?

Its probably efflorescence - very common. Scrubbing with disinfectant mix might help.

This is a natual occurrance with red brick. Do not wet it (with disenfectant or otherwise); it will only make it worse. Just get a wire brush and brush when necessary. It will eventually disappear by itself.

classic, perfect example of how good this site is, white stains, a perfect example of something easily overlooked but raised, good work
