whirlpool washing machine query

I have a Whirlpool 5kg/1200 AWO/O or could be D/D (not sure) washing machine and it will do all the cycles but sometimes the red service light comes on half way through the cycle and the machine stops. There isn't any code. I've lost the book so am just wondering if there's anything I could do myself that might solve this problem?
 
Hi, thanks for that suggestion--where is it and what do I do? As I said I've lost the booklet?
 
Hi, there will either be a small flap door at the bottom of the front of machine, you need to open this and unscrew the filter, take it out and clean it, pop it back in and screw the cap back on tightly, you will need some towels as there will be about a pint or so of water that will flow out, if there is no small door you will have to clip off the plastic panel at the bottom of the machine and the filter will be behind it
 
If you have a look on Google or the Whirlpool site itself you should be able to download the manual.

Not sure if you will be able to fit one under the filter but when checking our Miele machine I just hold the basin sideways and catch the water coming out. Saves you using towels and there can be quite a lot of water too.

Failing all else you might be able to get some advice from www.mastercare.ie as I've always found them to be helpful.
 
Thanks for that suggestion, that isn't the problem as I have now cleaned the filter. Any other suggestions?
