Hi
I had Health Ins years ago and let it lapse. I'm a 50yr old female looking for cover for usual health problems as we age, Cancer, Heart health, joint replacements etc. Also would like reduced GP visits. I have currently no medical issues. What plans are the best value for me.

Hi Finnito,

Welcome to AAM.
As you are over 34 years of age, there will be a 2% loading onto the premium price. This is called Lifetime Community Rating.
This is 16 years x 2% = 32% loading in your case. It applies every year forever. However, you would get a credit for every year you that you had health insurance in the past, but the onus is on you to provide proof ie policy number or old documentation etc.

Laya healthcare fully cover joint replacement surgery + cancer + heart health etc so the following plans are worth considering;
1. Control 300 Create; price 1181pa + 32% loading; all public, private(including private room fully covered) and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered;
private excess 300 per admission to a private or hi-tech hospital, day case 125 per procedure. Good day to day cover on this plan,
refund of 30 per gp visit, 80 per consultant visit, dental, optical, physio etc.

2. Laya Simply Connect; price 1230pa + 32% loading; all public, private and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered; private excess is capped at 150 x 2 max
per year for all admissions to a private or hi-tech hospital. Day case excess 50 per procedure. Good day to day cover included, refund of 50% for gp, consultant, dental, etc upto a yearly max refund of 500. (50% of 1000 = 500).

Cheaper plan would not have hi-tech hospital cover or refunds for gp etc. Details as follows;
3. Laya Essential Health 300; price 996 + 32% loading; all public, private and Beacon hospital covered. Blackrock Clinic and Mater Private only covered for heart health(cardiac). Private excess capped at 300 x 2 max per year for all admissions. Day case excess 125 per procedure.
Very limited day to day cover - gp refunds etc.

These cheaper plans have hi-tech hospital cover (hi-tech cover means Mater Private, Blackrock Clinic and Beacon hospital) but the private excess
is 600 or 450 per admission to a private or hi-tech hospital. Day case excess 175 or 125 per procedure. These plans fully cover a private room
in a private hospital.
4. Laya Control 600 Connect; price 955 + 32% loading; all public, private(including private room fully covered) and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered;
private excess 600 per admission to private or hi-tech hospital, day case excess 175 per procedure. Limited day to day cover.

5. Laya Control 450 Connect; price 998 + 32% loading; all public, private(including private room fully covered) and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered;
private excess 600 per admission to private or hi-tech hospital, day case excess 175 per procedure. Limited day to day cover.

6. Laya Control 600 Total; price 1004 + 32% loading; all public, private(including private room fully covered) and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered;
private excess 600 per admission to private or hi-tech hospital, day case excess 175 per procedure. Some day to day cover included on this
plan, refund of 15 per gp visit, 40 per consultant visit, etc.
