Which barbeque to buy?

old post I know. This could be a silly question but what coals do you need to use for a gas bbq. I thought you don't use coals? Is there a certain type for gas bbq's? Cheers.

Yeah I didn't get that either...we have a gas bbq and we just switch it on and let it heat up for 10-15 mins...there's no coal...just the gas burner!!

I know what I was getting confused over. What they are are Lava rocks for spreading the heat out evenly. I bought some rocks and wood chips today. The trays for the wood chip are e8 for 5! Screw that, local chinese for that.

Still waiting for the damn rain to stop. Might get the new gas bbq going by September

Outback gas barbie is the one. Nice product, well made and good for cooking the weekend fry up. No waiting for the coals to heat up and no smell of lighter fuel off the food!
I've done the coals and chips, too slow and unreliable.
Gas is your man and bananas are very tasty!

The better Gas Barbeques on the market do not have Lava Rock, they are fitted with flavouriser bars which cover the burners. The theory is that the fat that comes off the food lands on these bars which vapourises the fat due to the intense heat. This eliminates the flareups you get from lava rock barbeques. I purchased a Napoleon barbeque 4 years ago and it is a brilliant machine. It came with a smoker and rotisserie and can be used to cook Pizzas. However if you really want to stick with charcoal the Webber Kettle barbeque is good or if you want the ultimate go for a Big green egg! www.biggreenegg.com

have a good size gas withe the flaovouriser and use it regularly. gas wins hands down for handiness and while much more expensive i have used it a lot more than i would have if it was charcoal therefore probably cheaper over time vrs amount of use.
