Where to store Deeds

We have just finished paying off our mortgage . The building society is now in the process of putting the deeds into our names. Can I ask is there somewhere that you can store deeds to your house? Are there solicitors who do this for you? I just ask as we're currently living abroad and would prefer to have them somewhere safe in Ireland, rather than bringing them over here and having the chance they'd get mislaid when we move back / to our next contract.

By the way, what happens if the deeds do get lost / damaged?

My deeds were lost by a solicitor last year, the crucial documents to sell the house were replaced and that sale is now coming to a close. it's a hassle that I have difficulty finding someone to do the work for me. I am not an expert in that area but there are at least three gurus on the subject that post here regularly!
