Where to stop over on way to/from Australia

Hi,

I did post a similar query some time back but can't seem to find it in the thread so apologies for re-posting.

I am going to Australia to attend official events at end of February/March next year. My first official stop will be Perth and then to Brisbane. I will be travelling alone (female) and am wondering where is the best place(s) to stop off either going or returning or both?

stopped in dubai on my way to brisbane, to break up the flight and to get an engaement ring on the way back
