Where to get mature Bamboo plants - cheap!

Hi - I have areas in my garden that I'd love to screen off. I've a love of bamboos (the clump forming variety, so no invasion of the rest of the garden!). I want a tall bamboo i.e. 1.5/2 m high, but the only ones I've seen this high are also very mature, so very wide also and cost the earth. What I'd love to do is split them into 10 and take that, but the garden centres don't seem to be intersted in doing that somehow! ;)

Has anyone seen high bamboos that cost around €40 or less?

Homebase had some the last time I was in there. About 5ft tall €36.99 a pot. reasonable value i thought.

Bamboo grows very quickly and can be split easily.

I bought a plant 3 years ago and I split it into 2 or 3 each year, its got to the stage now that I nearly have too much!
 
Hi there, thanks for the replies. I'll check B&Q at the weekend, I always seems to be unlucky with them - anythign I look for was in last week but is out of stock now!

I'm delighted to get th e link to Sams bamboo. I'd heard about this place in Waterford that specialised in bamboos (from Helen Dillon no less!), but never managed to get the details!

I'm off to surf and shop!
 
Yeah, Stam's are great. They really know their stuff, so if you decide to take a trip there, ring them in advance and bring along a sketch of your garden showing orientation, existing planting, shade, etc. and they'll tell you what will best suit your needs. They've a great range, and will order in for you if you want something in particular. They won't rush you either, and they don't go for the hard sell (they gave me the same advice as Henny Penny when I told them I was on a severe budget).

Ahhhh... genuine customer service... *nostalgic sigh*...
 
Got a 7/8 foot one in B&Q last year. Can rememeber the price, but didn't cost the earth.
 
I saw some in Rolestown Garden Centre (on the Swords-Ashbourne rd.) last week. They had some 2-3 metres high and the 2m high ones were in the region of €40-50.
