Where to get a 'build to order PC' in Ireland?

Hi guys,

I was looking for a shop where I could build my PC. I saw that there are some Irish websites that are fraudulent (it seems to be the same person or group with several websites) and I almost fell for it if I hadn't checked further.

Actually, I only found the PC Specialist website, which despite being .IE website but is in the UK. My concern about buying with them is that their physical address is in West Yorkshire, England. So any problem with the PC can cost me a lot of money to send it, plus the stress.

Does anyone recommend a shop, could be an online one but in Ireland where I can build and order my PC?

I need a more robust custom PC for the kind of work I will be doing. These ready-to-go PCs from Harvey & Norman, PCWorld etc are no good for what I want and they don't have the option of custom PCs.

Amazon UK and overclockers.co.uk used to be my go sites for PC components but they aren't a runner now with Brexit. There was also a good German site with very competitive prices I also used (it's been years since I built a PC) but I can't think of it at the minute, I'll try and dig it out of my old emails.

Edit: think it was https://geizhals.eu/

@JohnJay They are registered for Irish VAT and Irish VAT is applied to the purchase price. If I was buying from them now I would check to be be doubly sure but I would be expecting them to confirm that no further duties payable on the package.

There just isn't the margin in building custom PCs to be worth it in Ireland. You only get enthusiasts doing it.
There is better economy of scale in the UK.
The other issue is this the worst time in years to build one. Parts prices have rocketed.
Also getting parts from or via the UK is a problematic due to Brexit.

Building a PC is easy. Its just time consuming. So your essentially paying for someones time.

That's no guarantee, there have been a few reports in the media of people getting hit with duties on deliveries from UK companies with Irish fronts.

Warranty will also be trickier to impose as we no longer have the EU consumer protection legislation on online sales to protect.

Having a .ie website front in and of itself means very little. Being registered for VAT in Ireland with a valid Irish VAT number (e.g. like Amazon & pcspecialist) is somewhat different. That said - if I was buying now I would be contacting pcspecialist directly for clarification and making a decision accordingly. It may ..... or may not .... be worth the risk.

Correct. Plus a company having an Irish VAT number doesn't mean you wont be charged import duty.

As I have said previously, if it were me and I was buying now from pcspecialist (or any other UK supplier) I would be contacting them direct to seek clarification on a number of issues. Depending on their reply I might ....... or might not ..... buy from them.

Ok - I'll disappear now. Best of luck OP with whatever u decide.

Cheers and goodbye..
