I was asked by Revenue to complete Form 12 for 2008. Does anyone know on which part of the form do I declare a gift of €6000 I received?

Secondly, does anyone know whereabouts on Form 12 I declare a redundancy payment of €7000 I received?

Cheers

I'm not sure that you can do a Capital Acquisitions Tax (e.g. Gift Tax) return on a Form 12. See here.

The gift is not declared as part of your income tax return.

You are only obliged to make a return of gifts/inheritances received if you reach 80% of the relevant threshold. If a return is required, you use form IT 38.

If your redundancy lump sum was tax free (under the basic exemption or scsb) it is disregared for tax purposes so, again, does not have to be shown on your form 12.

Form 12 - do all PAYE workers receive this from revenue?

I have also just received a Form 12, don't remember getting one before, only been working in Ireland for 2 years and am always suspicious when the taxman is looking for something.

Does every PAYE worker receive this?

Do they get one every year?

Is there any reason to be scared?

Thanks

No, no and no.

Forms 12 are randomly sent to PAYE workers (though I think making a claim for a large relief in a prior year can trigger getting one).

If you get one you are obliged to submit it.
