Hi all,
Our Avensis has been possessed for the last week.
The lights and indictors flash intermittently all the time. It was with the Toyota service centre and they claim that it did not happen when it was there and have no explanation other than possibly interference with the remote locking.
The remove locking does not activate when this happens, just the lights.
Its happening randomly, sometimes 1/2/4 or 8 flashes 30 seconds apart, sometimes a gap of a few minutes.

To rule out interference, I want to block off the IR receiver for the remote locking. Does anyone know where it is in the car ?

It won't use IR, but RF, so more difficult to block. Take a look at this doc. Does the issue only happen at certain locations and might the electrical interference mentioned be a factor?

Thanks Leo. Interesting. I'll look at that.
Don't know yet about the location,
We know it happens at our house. We know ( assuming we believe them) that is never happened at the service centre.
We haven't tried anywhere else. Planning to test this tomorrow.

This will sound like a mad question, but do you have a wireless doorbell or anything else wireless/remote controlled in your house?
I have a wireless doorbell. Sometimes the button gets stuck in on the doorbell. If it does, then it blocks the remote for the central locking on my car!
I only found this out after I called the AA one morning as I couldnt start my car as the immobiliser was stuck on.
