I am considering a radical career change.

My partner is a technical professional and is about to be decentralised from Dublin to a smallish rural community hundreds of miles away.

Does any one know of any good services which will help me prepare for this career and location change?

I found the following on google [broken link removed]
Does any have any experience with these people?

Any or all information or advice would be gratefully recieved.

Thanks

Re: Career Change

I would be suspicious of any organisation that gives no information at all about its staff, apart from the fact that they are "occupational psychologists". Anyone can callt themselves psychologists.

I have heard good reports from users and other psychologists of Patrick Shortt of ETC Consult 497 2067 [email protected]

There is also a vocational interest inventory on the FAS website, but it has never worked for me. ( Well it worked once and told me I should become an accountant, so that counts as not working)

checking out psychologists

You can find out if psychologists have recognised qualifications by going to the Psychological Society of Ireland. www.psihq.ie
They'll also have lists of psychologists specialisations and interests - occupational, clinical, experimental etc.

Brendan's right - actually the only statutory registration of health professionals is that of nurses. An Bord Altranais was set up way back when, and only people with recognised qualifications can call themselves nurses. Physiotherapists have set up a 'Chartered' status but I don't think it's statutory.

The Dept of Health is looking to set up statutory registration of other health professionals, they may have info on this somewhere. IMHO, it's **well** past its due date.
