when should a passport show up in tracking

I sent off my son's passport a week ago but it is still not showing up in tracking. He is not in a rush for it but I am bit concerned that it may be lost, the cheque has not been cashed yet.

Does anyone know how long it takes for them to show up in tracking. I just want to know it has been received.

Didn't use express but took it in to the post office to get weighed and they took it off me at the counter and put it straight in a bag.
 
There seems to be a surge of applications for passports during August so there are delays longer than normal.

However the application should be registered in their system especially after a week.

I just had another quick check before ringing them and lo and behold it is now showing up on the system:cool:
