A friend has a car that was first registered in mid September 2000, she now wishes to buy a new car and avail of the government scrappage scheme, along with the manufacturers scrappage scheme which between them would be worth €4K.
Having spoken to three main dealers they all have a different opinion as to when this car qualifies for scrappage. One says the car will qualify I month before its tenth birthday, another says 6 weeks before, and another says 3 months before.
My reading of the rules here is the car actually has to be ten years old to qualify.

Are the dealers simply trying to get the order and a deposit and then string out delivery until mid September or can this scheme be availed 4, 6 or 12 weeks before the cars tenth birthday ?
