When does €2,500 penalty for not registering apply?

I thought I had read somewhere that if the Household Charge had not been paid by Jan 2013 there would be a penalty of €2500 applied.
Today I have been told that this penalty applies if the house owner has not registered by March 31st.
I cannot find this on the HC information pages; can anyone clarify the date this penalty kicks in?
 
Late Payment fees

An owner of a residential property who does not pay a Household Charge or an instalment thereof by the due date will be subject to (1) LATE PAYMENT FEES and (2) LATE PAYMENT INTEREST
(1) LATE PAYMENT FEES
The late payment fee to apply in the case of a Household Charge paid:
  • not later than 6 months after the due date, is 10% of the amount outstanding;
  • later than 6 months and not later than 12 months after the due date, is 20 % of the amount outstanding; or
  • later than 12 months after the due date, is 30 % of the amount outstanding.
(2) LATE PAYMENT INTEREST
Late payment interest of 1% per month or part thereof will apply to unpaid amounts.

the above is the late payment fees. I for one dont plan on registering for this charge like the majority of the rest of the country. its jsut another tax to pay back the banks.
 
I for 1 will be taking my day in court with the €100 payment and money will be happily handed over once they give me a bill.

That's quite tortuous!

What you're saying is you will pay it. But you want additional administrative/legal expense to
be incurred ( at the taxpayers expense) to find you, to bill you, rather than just pay up?

Is the €100 a deposit to keep you out of jail till you get the rest of the 2.5k you will be fined ? You might want to bring a credit card just in case.

A shocking waste of court resources. with an attitude like that no wonder the country is in such a mess.

Do you do the same with your tax liability? Just because Revenue dont give you a "bill"!!!!!
 
I don't understand the rationale behind this post. The Houshold Charge is now law. The Courts will have no option put to impose a penalty on anyone who is brought before hem for failing to pay. We may or may not agree with the basis for the charge, as we may or may not agree with the basis for any increase in taxes. However, the Governmant have no option other than to proceed against people who fail to pay. there is an assumption held by many, that they are entitled to protest against the charge by not paying and this act will have no consequences.
If the Governmant back down on this, they will totally lose their credibility and ability to put forward any future tax/other increases. I don't see this happening!
 
It's probably some Freeman rubbish, was spouted at the anti-eviction "rally" in Laois last week or the week before.

Funny seeing the ULA allied with the Freeman libertarians.

All I was trying to find out was when the €2500 kicked in.
I had read somewhere it would only be in 2013, and thought it was for late payment.
Now I have heard it is the fine for not registering, which is quite different, and applies from March 31st.

I just wanted to clarify things, as I find legislation very hard to read.

I think that is the point of the refusal to register. As a form of civil disobedience to show opposition to adherence to Troika deal and full repayment of private bank debts. Much more civilised that marching on the streets like the Greeks. Although their protests have been extremely effective.
 
Did anyone get pamphlets or info about this through the post? I certainly didn't and unless I go looking for information online, AAM is the only place that I frequent where I'm getting any info.
My point is, that not everyone uses the internet like we do and would not even know where to start to look for information about this charge.
So I'm assuming that there will be some kind of postal campaign?
We personally have gotten 3 letters from the labour party to our home in the past 7 days.
Paid for by you and I people!!

There is no bill for the NPPR, or for the PRTB. Why does one have to have a bill. It is a legal obligation to pay the bill, the penalties are enormous and all those who think they won't have to pay because 'everybody' else is not and it's 'unfair'. Well we'll see.
 
The courts won't be able to cope with all this anyhow. I found it interesting when Enda Kenny said about people expected to pay E100 upfront for the greyhound rubbish collection charge in dublin was excessive.
 

i'm not opposed to the charge as such.
but come on, there needs to be some sort of personal information upfront ("dear mr. d15 if you own a property, it is now law that ... etc) or a very wide public information campaign.

just excepting people to sign up without any information is surreal to me.
 
I heard last week that the company engaged by the government to print info leaflets have gone bust -typical

We still got to pay it though - you dont go into a shop and take an item off the shelf and walk out the door with it just because the shop didnt give you a "bill"!!!!!

Your anology doesn't correspond to what is happening with the 'Household charge' Items for sale in a shop pose an 'invitation to treat' which gives the customer an oppurtunity to buy a product. Walking out of a shop without paying is obviously stealing.

In this case, householders are expected to pay a charge without being duly notified. Two completely different things really!
