Ive phoned the revenue twice as Im trying to get my taxes sorted out before I leave two months from now (it seems Ive been consistantly paying more taxes than I should despite not being on emergancy) can anyone reccomend the best way to get decent help or explanations from the revenue office , the phone has been useless, would it be worth going to the main office in person?

What sort of info are you looking for? You should not depend on Revenue for authoritative info and certainly not for advice. If in doubt get professional advice.

I always find that writing to them is better and more effective than other forms of communication.

Why and for how long have your tax affairs not been up to date?

I have found, in the past, that the best way to deal with revenue is to call to your local office for a face to face. In fairness they are always very helpful.

I saught advice from the revenue via e-mail and received a very good response within a couple of days

you should register with paye online & order balancing statements to see if you over paid any tax

I presume you mean register, correct any details for each tax year that are not up to date and then order balancing statements for the relevant years? After all just ordering a P21 balacing statement won't do much good in most cases unless any errors or omissions in relation to tax credits etc. are corrected first?

i assumed from above they had checked this already and were just looking to get the repayments due, but yes they should correct their details for each year if required
