evergreen clematis on wall only 3 ft high, the new leaves are being completely eaten, the top leaves as they emerge - no slugs around, pellets on the ground. Last years leaves perfect.
At this time of year, it is more than likely earwigs, if it is not slugs.
You will see then on or around the plant if you inspect at night with a torch.
