Hi everybody , I'm planning on packing up and moving to the USA in about 18months , however i'm in need of a car now . I want a used car that will be easy to sell on when the time comes ! So i'm interested in hearing everybodies thoughts , especially people in the trade !!
Thank you in advance !! STE

Unfortunately i'm one of the unlucky ones who got pushed out to the stick , because of Dublin house prices !! Oh yeah That's where i work !

how much do you want to spend ?
I'd go for a souped up boy racer number with all the bells and whistles.. they always seem to be easy to sell on to the boy racer fraternity later on

Some cars always sell well second hand.... but only if you pick up the right one to begin with.

The usual Golf, Polo, Civic etc etc (pretty much any of the most popular makes) always trade well and you can find some in very good condition.

Importing from the north can be very fruitful, again, if you find the right car. Some of the older BMWs (96 or so - older car keeps the VRT lower) can be picked up for a bargain across the border.
Some models seem to sell very well when they hit the market due to a slight lack of supply. I've had a friend looking to pick up a good Mazda MX3 and has been unable to find any anywhere near in decent condition (he has decided to begin looking in the uk to find a hopeful bargain).

To be honest, if the car is at the right price it'll have no problem selling whatever it is.
Try and pick up a good deal, and you'll not lose too much on it later.

have u tried ebay..you could get a bargain.if you hold your nerve in the bidding

I'd spend about 15k and i'll never drive anything that looks remotely like a boy racer motor. Just posted the question to see what perferences people have in general. I was thinking BMW ,VW or similar!! I couldn't find any info on used car sales figures.

Seems like a really bad idea, buying online (especially a used car) !!!

not really we have done it twice.. and with ebay Ireland you have the option of going to see the car and making up toure own mind

Most people would agree with you there....
the only problem being the higher resale value will be built into the price you pay. Its all about getting the car at a good price to begin with. You manage that and you'll manage to re-sell most cars without taking too big a hit in the pocket.

If you are thinking BMW I'd again suggest the trip up north. Bargains really can be found. Careful going too new or high end with the VRT, but the newer ones can turn a larger profit when it comes to selling it on.
