What we actually need is competition. New entrants will come into the market and end the current oligopoly. But only when they have certainty over the security for the loans. Nonsense like the O'Donnell case is being joked about in the boardrooms of foreign banks with one eye on Ireland. Sort that out and then the SVRs will fall.
