What to do with gold jewellry

Hi all,

We have a substantial amount of gold jewellry and wondering what we can do with it. Do you think it would be better to hold on to it for now? If so for how long? What sort of trend has the value of gold seen recently? We would like to get it valued. How can we get the most honest valuation for it?

Any advice greatly appreciated!
 
simplest way to value, is to weigh and get scrap price. Jewellery is ususlly not a good investment, given the mark up in shops.

valuations are strange. Are you wanting to value for 'insurance purposes' or sale? There will be a substantial difference. The former will probably be higher than the market value as the jeweller wants you to have the feel good factor that your item has increased in value.
