I only write two or three cheques every year .Every time i write a cheque my bank ( BOI) send me a new cheque book so now at this stage I have 3 new cheque books with just 3 used cheques. What can I do with these books .am afraid to write a cheque now in case bank sends me another new one. What can I do with those unused cheque books.

By any chance are you using the cheques at the back of the book instead of at the front?

  1. Send your two oldest unused cheque books back to the bank and get credit for the stamp duty on them
  2. As pointed out by MugsGame above, start writing cheques from the front of the book
:D

BOI normally issue a new book when the 17th or 18th cheque is presented from a book of 25. If your figs are correct, then clearly the system has broken down.

The duty paid is called medallion stamp duty and is refundable. The rate since the recent budget is 0.50p, up from 0.30 in the previous budget (Dec 07) or 0.14 prior to that.
