As a tenant we payed only ESB, Gas, Waste(shared between flats) and TV license.
As we will be a home owner soon (hopefully) we would like to know what sort of bills we should count for? / monthly, yearly /

I collected some of them already:
--------------------------------
Mortgage
Life insurance
Home Insurance
Motor insurance
TV license
Chorus
ESB ???
Bord Gáis ???
Refuse/Waste ???

I think these are the usual bills/payments occurs monthly or yearly.
Please let me know if I missed something.
I'd also like to see some figures(approximate costs for a 3 bed semi detached house) for the last three items marked with question marks.

This post may seems to be odd a little bit...But we just want to pre-calculate all the bills in advance versus be surprised later on.

Thanks in advance.

Window cleaning
garden
lawnmower
upkeep--- painting, repairs
internet/telephone line( if not in chorus package)
residents committee fee

of course the usual suspects will say do all them things yourself, but
likely 2 of you working to pay for the house, finding time to do the around the house things will be hard.

if you want to get 5 gold stars

cleaner in a few hours a week

excuse the rant
so many on here say you can do all the odd jobs yourself!
but paying someone to do the job they are experienced to do, who do it quicker has to be better than struggling to do these jobs after a long day.

Depends on the house the OP is talking about a 3 bed semi, more than likely the garden will be manageable and cleaning your own house shouldn't be such a task either.

cleaning your house is a pain in the butt, especially if you work all week the last thing i want to do is spend my time off cleaning. I got a cleaner and I pay for it by bringing my lunch in a few days to work and its the best thing I've ever done. It just leaves me the bedrooms, washing and ironing to do which is great as all the big stuff is done.

If you are both out working all day spending weekends (the only time you'll have) house-cleaning will be all you can manage!

Becoming a house-owner absorbs an unbelievable amount of money in the first few years, on all kinds of items from 'the right' curtains to coat-hooks to garden shed to loft insulation to plants and shrubs for the garden. Put it all together you're talking a thousand a year on 'bits and pieces'. Then there are the things that fail just after you've purchased. The washer on the outflow in my water-tank seized up three days after I moved into mine. Emergency plumber next day and a whacking fee for 10 minutes work and a bit of metal costing a few pence. A few weeks later a storm blew down 50' of shiplap fencing (which you then find is NOT covered by any home insurance policy). More money.

There is also maintenance of utilities and fittings which is very, very important! Even though they're in working order one of the first things any prudent person needs to do is have gas-fires and boilers inspected and if necessary serviced, water-system inspected, electricity supply and safety checked etc. Money well spent.

However you won't mind! Home-making is great fun. ;)

In terms of ESB and GAS cost, it will depend on if you have someone living in the house during the working week as that tends to push up these costs.

Here's an example from 2007.

08/02/2007D.D GAS 259.06
08/04/2007D.D GAS 302.72
06/06/2007D.D GAS 152.06
10/08/2007D.D GAS 136.71
08/10/2007D.D GAS (259.06 in 2006) 84.19
07/12/2007D.D GAS (222.54 in 2006) 106.27

26/02/2007D.D ESB 205.26
27/04/2007D.D ESB 177.71
28/06/2007D.D ESB 122.21
23/08/2007D.D ESB 117.21
25/10/2007D.D ESB 107.77
21/12/2007D.D ESB (190.00 in 2006) 82.02

The lower costs in autumn/winter 07 costs are because I had someone (coldblooded so needed lots of warmth) in the house all day up to summer 07.

If you are buying in a new estate you could have Management fees as well which could be anything from €300-€600 a year
