What Rent Relief is due?

Hi,

If a person has rented an apt for 5 months in 2007 and 11 months in 2008 what is the rent relief due? Its confusing as its not in the one year.

According to the Citizens Advice website I calculated it to be €360 for 2007 and €400 for €2008. I have just moved out and want to claim tax relief. I was paying €1,050 per month. Can anyone confirm that this is correct please?

Assuming your figures are correct, which when I checked last the you should be getting:

5/12*360 + 11/12*400
 
In 2007 you paid 1050*5 = 5250 rent. You will get the full relief possible.

In 2008 you paid more than 2007. Again, the full relief possible.

I will look up the max relief now for you.

OK, I see it's 1800*0.20 in 2007, so that's 360 euro.

In 2008, it's 400 for a single person under 55.
 
Even though you may have paid rent for only a few months, you still paid enough to be entitled to the full tax credit.
