Can anyone tell me if a qualified kitchen fitter earning 42k a year will qualify for a mortgage. Is this profession considered secure by the banks?
He previously was self employed but has been in his current position for a year and has a 20k deposit. He also has car repayments of 350 euro a month.

Impossible to tell without having more details on him.

Some banks will not lend to people involved in a construction related industry while others will still entertain strong candidates.

How much is he looking for?

He is looking for approx 200k, which would get him a lovely 4 bed semi in his area

If he could pay off the car loan then he would have a better chance but I presume if he pays off the car loan, he will not have any deposit left?

i doubt it would be seen as secure - how many kitchens will he fit this year for example - its very much tied to a collapsed industry.

Only they will tell him with any degree of certainty.
