What is the point of WikiAnswers and the like?

There are a few sites like this and I just don't get it.

Many forums (Inc this this one) feature questions that can easily be googled in seconds but to dedicate a site for random questions which is powered by a browser which exists more or less to do this anyway?!

Is there more to it than this??

Perhaps more of a friendly feeling then just googling??. Yahoo answers seems to have lots of people chiming in with answers and you can comment on them etc? - don't know about wikianswers or any of them, maybe it's just another way to generate advertising/sponsorship??
