I've accepted now that I won't be able to trade in my car without it costing double what it did last year. I've decided to hang onto my 08 until next year, and start putting away extra money over the coming year to offset the bigger depreciation on the car. (I hope to get a new car next year).
The reason I didn't upgrade this year is that while it usually costs €3K to upgrade, it was going to cost me €6K and that was because I was such a loyal customer ! Other garages didn't want to know about a trade-in. I might have paid the €6K but no one could tell whether I would be caught for another €6K next year. Does anyone out there have any ideas of where things are going ?
It appears to me that the Dealers want the motorists to take the hit i.e. I was being charged an extra €3K but the price of the new car hadn't dropped at all. Surely the solution is for the price of New and Used cars to drop ?
