What is my tax liability when if I work abroad?

I have been trying to find an answer to this question for months but without success. The Revenue's explanatory booklet provides conflicting advice so any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I was in full time employment in Ireland since 2002. On 20 March 2008, I left Ireland to work abroad. I propose returning to Ireland in mid June 2009. There is no tax treaty between my new country and Ireland.

What, if any, tax do I have to pay upon my return to Ireland for 2008 and 2009 upon the income I earned abroad?

Any answer would be greatly appreicated.

If you remain resident in Ireland you will be taxable in Ireland on your foreign income.

If there is no double taxation agreement with the country you have earned income in, you can claim unilateral relief, and as far as I am aware this will give you credit for any foreign tax paid.

However, I would suggest that you confirm this with your tax office.
