What if No Petrol or Diesel ?

We are so reliant on cars and modern transport we would be in a very difficult position if we suddenly found that we were unable to buy petrol or diesel, possibly through problems of suppliers, financial etc.
We would be unable to travel to work or go to the supermarket for our groceries, buses and trains would stop, this would be particularly difficult for people living in rural areas that are not within walking distance of shops. Assuming that there is a way of transporting goods, possibly back to the horse and cart and local farmers.

Hydrogen, electricity, gas (lpg)

Plenty of alternatives... just not as easily available as petrol/diesel

Walk to shops, cycle to work. They do it in every other country, nothing stopping us apart from our over reliance in cars

Hydrogen, electric is OK if it is planned, but if petrol was stopped sudenly that would be a problem, diesels could run on other oils but there will not be enough available. You would have a long walk to the shops in some rural areas

That just shows how dependent we are on fossil fuels. The sooner we move away from them the better. Hydrogen as a fuel needs to be looked at and investment made. I dont believe electricity is the answer in the long term.

Hydrogen as a fuel source is most effiecintly used to produce electricity...

'Electricity' can't be the answer, as the question here is energy source, not the transmission mechanism.

Pruple's right as well, we'll all be long gone before oil supplies are significantly constrained.
