Hi,

I am originally from Northern Ireland but have been working in Ireland for the past 5 years. I am in my early 30s are currently looking at investing money in different assets types. My medium term plan is to move back to N. Ireland in the next 5-10 years.

My question is around how moving back to N. Ireland would affect any investments in make from Ireland in these next 5-10 years. What would happen for example, if I was to leave within 8 years. Would any sort of exit tax still apply to any shares I held? When I become non-resident in Ireland, am I liable for tax on all gains made on investments during my time here, or only for the last year in Ireland?

I know I can then avail of incentives such as an investment ISA when I return to Northern Ireland but is there any additional requirements for UK tax on investments when I move?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as these unknown areas are holding me back from getting started.

Thanks!
