What flooring to lay upstairs?

Can anyone recommend what flooring to lay upstairs in a new build.
My husband assumes we will lay red deal floor boards but surely there are alternatives now.
I am not keen on floorboards especially the cracks in between the boards where dust gathers.
Anyone use anything other than floor boards upstairs?

Sorry maybe I should have made my query more clear I mean what to lay as the first surface.
I know I could choose carpet but it is what is underneath the carpet I am enquiring about.

If you are going to carpet upstairs you could floor out the first floor with WBP plywood, screwed down at 200mm centres. You'll get a good solid floor which will be less likely to squeak.
