What does 'extracted' mean?

Hi,

If you are told that Probate is being extracted, does this mean that the documents have been sent to the Probate Office, or could it mean that the Executors are signing documents in the solicitor's office, but nothing has yet been sent to the Probate Office?

Thanks,

Thanks for that. So 'Probate is being extracted' actually begins from the first day the Executors enter the solicitor's office. I was under the impression that the Probate Office had received the CA24 etc, but it appears this may not be the case.

Just to update. No documentation has been sent to the Probate Office. Seems strange to use the phrase 'Probate is being extracted' when nothing has been done.

Sometimes the person may just mean that they are in the process of dealing with the probate process.

The effective part is when the Grant of Probate is granted. At that stage, when the Grant of Probate issues, the executor can say that the grant of probate has been extracted.

My inner cynic learned once upon a time to be careful with people using the expression about "probate being extracted" because what they were actually doing was delaying for certain ulterior reasons. However, it may be entirely innocent.
