Hi

I'm just wondering about the dependant relative tax credit. Both my parents are in a nursing home and as well as paying the nursing home fees I am also paying for chiropody and hairdressing services they get in the nursing home. Also I buy their clothes for them.

Am I entitled to claim the dependant relative tax credit for the clothes and chiropody and hairdressing services? I already claim for the nursing home fees on the MED1 form.

Dependant relative tax credit is claimable if a person maintains at his own expense a relative... who is incapacitated by old age...

If the income of the dependant is over €13,473 ( 2008 limit, but I don't think this has changed) no tax credit is due. You do not say what income your parents have.

The credit is worth €400 @ 20% for each parent. It does not depend on how much you actually spend.

If you are talking about the 80 euro credit then all of the items you listed will entitle you to it. Just fill out the form and return to tax office.
