What do Newsagents do with large glass sweet jars?

I was thinking of using some large glass jars in the garden to put over some plants to act as a little green house for each one.

Was going to buy some, but I just realised that the large glass sweet jars which some newsagents keep sweets in would be perfect.

Do newsagents usually just throw these jars out/recycle them, or what happens to them?

Hadn't actually thought about that. I suppose plastic jars would be okay too.
 
if they are glass then I'd have thought they'd refill them from plastic bags or similar.
 

A buddy of mine just uses 2ltr plastic bottles, cut in half. It's not as pretty as your suggestion but cheap-as-free.

Hmmm, not sure... Perhaps plastic jars would be better as tiny holes could be punctured in them for air but left small enough so as not to let in grubs.
 
I use plastic Pick & Mix sweets container for growing herbs.

Had to drill a few holes for air, but it works perfectly. Had had in the kitchen for years holding fruit & veg, but now its just herbs.....people always love it as it a real pick & mix container.

It was in a skip in town one night, brought it down and gave it a new life....
