What banks pay for legal bill when switching

Bank of Ireland - €1000 towards legals (subject to clawback if you change within 5yrs)

NIB - €600 towards legals. (they will cover cost if you use first american, the banks title insurer & no clawback)

Ulster Bank & First Active will cover legals if you use first american also. (worth €889 - with clawback)

EBS offers a free legal service too (with clawback)

Halifax - free legals with First American, or €1000 towards your own solc. (with clawback)

PTSB - like Halifax - free legals with its title insurance or €1000 towards your own and if you're solc only costs €800, you can keep the difference. (NO clawbacks)

Very useful post above - perhaps should be made a Key Post?

It should be noted that some of the above deals relate only to your own home, not investment properties, and that minimum mortgage amounts apply in some cases.

If you pressure AIB they will pay. We just told them to pay or we would not move to them but to ulster bank instead. they rang back and agreed to pay but we told them we were going with ulster bank anyhow!!!

People should be careful not to be penny-wise, pound-foolish with this though...free legals are all well and good but they must be looked at in the context of the interest charges. Saving €1500 could end up costing a hell of a lot more. The same is true for 1 year discounted rates.
