I
I know there's the whole Rent Allowance route but I really don't wan't to be an even bigger burden to the tax-payer then I already am.
.
Sorry about your illness.
You have worked in the past and paid PRSI and PAYE, so you have made a valuable contribution to society and taxpayers
When you say you would love to move out, are you paying any rent at the moment?
Have you spoken to the social worker in the hospital? Could they arrange local authority accommodation for you closer to the hospital if you visit it a lot?
Simply ,you did not ask to get cystic fibrosis.Whatever you get in allowances you are properly entitled to.
In no fair way are you any more a burden than any other person with chronic conditions,eg diabetes, so with respect ,kill that burden feeling.
How much rent would you need to pay close to the hospital, have you identified somewhere suitable, I would find out from social welfare or the community welfare officer what rent level you are entitled to.
Do you need a particular type of accommodation to cater for your needs.
Are you living at home presently?
You've listed the one bed max rent limit. Is there any rule that means social welfare has discretion to increase this limit in cases of serious illness. Maybe you could post that question on the social welfare forum on AAM and one of the experts would have the answer. I suggest you ask the CWO, social welfare, citizen's advice and the hospital group that helps people with long term illnesses.
The rent limit you mention would get you a one bed flat in Cork. €800 would get you a house. What exactly in terms of accommodation is suitable. You might be better off sharing accommodation, the rent limit is less, but you get more house? Perhaps another person in similar circumstances to yourself, maybe there is a bulletin board at the hospital.
